I TEACH YOU HOW TO LIVE

(these last three posts are all ads from RAYMER'S LATEST OFFICIAL MAP OF SEATTLE "Seaport of Success" WASHINGTON (1913), which I found on Google books. Beebo and I have just moved into an ancient (by Seattle standards) apartment, built in 1905. These are some things I found while doing a little internet research...

p.s. No scrub children!

PSA

I watched an old movie called Plymouth Adventure on Thanksgiving Day. It was a very Hollywood-ized version of the story of the Pilgrims' sea voyage, with all the familiar names popping up ("They need a good carpenter on this ship. Maybe you'd like to join them, Mister--" "John Alden, and I might, at that." etc.). It made me curious whether that kind of earnest history is even taught anymore. It barely was when I was a kid. I'm not sure it needs to be, though it comes in handy for trivia quizzes.

It also reminded me of the importance of preventing scurvy!
From Wikipedia:
Scurvy can be prevented by a diet that includes certain citrus fruits such as oranges or lemons. Other sources rich in vitamin C are fruits such as blackcurrants, guava, kiwifruit, papaya, tomatoes, bell peppers, and strawberries. It can also be found in some vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli, potatoes, cabbage, spinach and paprika, as well as some pickled vegetables. Many animal products, including liver and oysters, contain vitamin C. Though redundant in the presence of a balanced diet, various nutritional supplements are available that provide ascorbic acid well in excess of that required to prevent scurvy, and even some candies and most soft drinks contain vitamin C as a preservative.

Beebo is home sick

..But don't worry, she just has a "cold". She "does not" have swine flu.

Big Eyes

I just went to the optometrist and got my pupils dilated. Now I have big crazy black orbs, like Deebo the Cat when he's staring at you in a dark room. This makes me only semi-effective at work for the next few hours. I had to draw the blinds all the way and I'll wear sunglasses if I go out into the hallway.

Tuffy Tooth

I-Yi-Yi, have I not posted anything since Monday? Well, it's been a wearing week. On Wednesday, I went to the dentist to get some work done and lost the co-pay roulette. It was either going to be two fillings ($250) or one filling and one crown ($950). Well, what was I going to do with that $700 anyway? Also, Beebo and I watched several Hallowe'en movies: From Beyond the Grave (me only), Island of Terror (very good), Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein (a classic, of course), and Dead Man's Eyes (dumb, but fun). the last two starred Beebo's favorite actor, Lon Chaney Jr.

On Thursday, the computer started making loud sounds (Processor fan) and I thought I was going to have to get it fixed, but then it quieted down again. But I didn't really touch it for two days. It's disturbing to find out how much you get used to having a computer!

Baked Brains

Here's a picture of me and how well I'm dealing with the weather. (I'm the one in the middle)
