31 years later, I wonder if the folks at Marvel Comics still think it was a great idea to slap this promotional contest banner across the top of one of their most famous issues ever...

"Comics are a disposable product!  Who cares if the cover looks like shit?  It's not like anyone will ever make a movie of the X-Men with a $160 million budget..."

Books from my junior high library, circa 1978 or 1979

My cheapo school district obtained a bulk supply of "books" at some point during my early adolescence. They weren't library books; they were just 'around' in our classrooms. The ubiquity of these titles (for there were many copies of each one) made them very familiar to me, like old friends. Here are a few:
This one looked great, but I didn't read it.

This one I loved. In fact, I stole it.

Not as compelling as the movie.

I found this one hilarious, since it was four years old
and our school was in southern Indiana.

I also "liberated" and read this one. It's good!

There was also one about hot TV stars of some mid-seventies year, but I can't remember it specifically enough to find a picture...
