Books from my junior high library, circa 1978 or 1979

My cheapo school district obtained a bulk supply of "books" at some point during my early adolescence. They weren't library books; they were just 'around' in our classrooms. The ubiquity of these titles (for there were many copies of each one) made them very familiar to me, like old friends. Here are a few:
This one looked great, but I didn't read it.

This one I loved. In fact, I stole it.

Not as compelling as the movie.

I found this one hilarious, since it was four years old
and our school was in southern Indiana.

I also "liberated" and read this one. It's good!

There was also one about hot TV stars of some mid-seventies year, but I can't remember it specifically enough to find a picture...

  1. I bet you felt REALLY rebellious stealing those books (especially since you have a rule-following nature) but it's funny to look back on that now and realize that whomever scattered those books around probably HOPED children would steal 'em. Kind of like the way the Gideon's Bible people hope people will steal their bibles.

It's cute to think of lil' Foulard stealing his precious Mad Magazine and Planet of the Apes books. :P

  2. I dunno, I think if I asked if I could have one, they would've said no! But I knew they were safe to steal , since they had no library cards in 'em.

I don't think they were thinking *anything* when they got that weird load of titles, except that they were cheap (or free).
