Wassail! The holidays are upon us, and it's time to start thinking about specialty cocktails that are in tune with the festive feeling we are all...feeling.
With that in mind, put aside those summer-y egg white-based recipes and start thinking about using the whole egg in your drink of choice. Here are a couple of recipes to get you started:Those drinks sound SOLID!
My sister Jen actually makes wassail every Christmas Eve for her annual birthday party (I say annual because although everyone has a birthday annually not everyone actually hosts a party, but she does, mostly because her birthday is on Dec. 24 so she tries to avoid being overshadowed by Christmas). Anyway, it's really delicious! I think it had egg in it, and beer and chunks of apple, and maybe wine. It sounds vile but is so good. It's all cooked, so no salmonella fears.
ReplyDeleteWell, as long as the eggs are cooked, I'm sure it could be pretty tasty (I just looked up some recipes). But the above recipes (circa 1935) didn't involve ANY cooking of the egg yolk. I can't remember when people started freaking out about salmonella. At least 20 years ago?
