Structurally, this looks like a really nice apartment--it's clean, has the much-fetishized hardwood floors, and some built-in shelves. But they've chosen to show it on the context of a lonely xmas scene.
Look at that little tree-not one present under it! Those cold floors without a nice rug to cheer them up. The small TV shunted off into a corner, far from the couch--a prescription for eye strain. A peek into a similarly spartan bedroom. It's like George Clooney's apartment from Up in the Air.
(Or the cover to the Bummed Out Christmas! album from Rhino Records)
It's like they're not even trying. I've noticed this, too, with pictures of homes for sale here. These houses are listed at 400k-500k and the rooms are just FILLED with clutter. It's really amateurish. Once you get above 600k they tend to look pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAt least this one was clean. Sometimes it seems like they don't WANT to sell or rent the place. Or they have a complete lack of understanding of the basics of visual presentation (and writing clear ad copy). It's funny that they make it such a puzzle!
ReplyDeleteThat photo would actually be much LESS sad if there were nothing at all in it. Or at least just the tree by itself. Somehow the addition of the lonely TV in the corner makes it much worse.
ReplyDeleteLike: here I am, all alone again on Christmas. Oh well, at least I can sit waaaaaaaay across the room from my TV and watch "my shows." :(
"I wish I'd bought myself some presents and put them under the tree to make it more festive. Oh well, maybe next year!"
